The Buckeyes clinch top seed in the Big Ten tournament by Andrew Hill

Ohio State finished the regular season with a demolishing 65-93 victory over No. 10 Wisconsin and ended as No. 1 in AP poll.

March 6 was not just any given Sunday for No.1 Ohio State Buckeyes, as that day marked their last home game of the season, day that they could make their fans go wild by clinching the Big Ten championship ring. Their only obstacle towards the title was the No. 10 Wisconsin Badgers, who they would get out of their way with a blowout victory, which represent the 14th of this type in the 2010/11 regular season.

Just like in their previous victory against the Penn State Nittany Lions, the Buckeyes were lethal from the three-point range, a weapon that they used again to win the game against the Badgers.

The Buckeyes’ effectiveness from the three point line was such that they even set a NCAA Division I record by scoring 14 of 15 three-pointers that evening at the Value City Arena. After Jon Diebler failed the first attempt early in the game, Ohio State wasn’t going to miss any more shots behind the arc, making each one of them count, for a total of 14 in a row.

Despite having missed the only three-point shot of the team, Diebler was going to stay true to this nickname: â€3-bler†and account for 50% of Ohio State’s shots from the three point line with seven. He also added six more points in that game to led the squad in scoring for the 5th time in the season with his 27 points.

With this victory the Buckeyes avenge one of the two defeats suffered this season, as on February 12 they had lost to Wisconsin on the road by 67-71, result that cost them the end of their undefeated streak of 24 games. They also sign a school record with their 29 regular season wins, and clinch the Big Ten title for the 19th time, not to forget that they also secure the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament.

But it is way too early to start popping the champagne bottles in Ohio, as this was just their â€first mission,†David Lighty said in reference to Big Ten championship ring. The senior -who as well as Diebler and Dallas Lauderdale played his final home game and contributed in the 65-93 victory with 13 points- explained that their next challenge is the â€three-day tournament that we need to win and that will get us ready for the NCAA tournament. That's just step two of our three-step mission.â€

The tournament will be held at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis from March 10-13. No. 1 Ohio State will see action on Friday at noon, when they take the winner of Game 1 between No.8 Northwestern Wildcats and No.9 Minnesota Gophers. Whoever advances will face the winner of No.4 Illinois Fighting Illini versus No.5 Michigan Wolverines on Saturday afternoon.

If Ohio State wins the tournament it would represent their third championship since its first edition in 1998, becoming the Big Ten team with more trophies of this kind in history. Winning the Tournament would also guarantee the Buckeyes besides a first-round bye in the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
